About ChaiTalk

We didn't wait. We started building.

ChaiTalk is a social network made for the Middle East, in the Middle East, by someone who grew up there and still misses the way evenings really sound. This is the founder's note.

Our mission

Free our region from depending on platforms that were never built for us.

Korea has its own. China has its own. Russia has its own. India has its own. The Middle East scrolls through feeds, posts, and timelines designed somewhere else, in a culture that isn't ours. ChaiTalk is the simplest, most stubborn answer to that: our own social network, in our language, with our defaults, owned in the region.

Why we need this

A few honest questions, before you scroll on.

Every yes below is a reason we're building this.

Do you like watching your culture quietly change?

Foreign-built platforms slowly reshape what we share, what we say, what we treat as normal. Drip by drip. Until one day we look up and our timeline is someone else's mood, in our language.

Do you like ideas getting injected that never fit us?

A trend made for Brooklyn lands in Cairo with no context. A meme tuned for one culture becomes a fight in another. Algorithms tuned to maximise rage do the same job everywhere, but they do not understand us.

Do you trust those platforms with your kids?

Algorithms tuned for outrage and addiction. Ad slots full of things you would not let into your living room. ChaiTalk has child protection built in from day one of the codebase, not bolted on three years later after a scandal.

Do you like being watched all day?

Surveillance feeds. Retargeting ads. Behavioural profiles sold to brands you never invited. We do not do any of it. You share what you choose to share. Nothing more.

Do you like being the product?

If you are not paying, you are being sold. That is the whole business model of every feed you scroll. We pick a different one: paid by people who want the platform to exist, not by surveillance.

Do you like someone else controlling what you see?

Foreign moderation rules. Foreign content priorities. Foreign politics deciding what counts as safe in your country. We move that judgement back here, in the open, with a regional moderation team you can actually reach.

What we stand for

What we don't compromise on.

01

Sovereignty over convenience.

Korea built its own. China built its own. Russia built its own. India built its own. The Middle East kept renting platforms designed in San Francisco. If a foreign provider cuts the region off tomorrow, half a billion people lose their feed. ChaiTalk is the fallback that should have existed a decade ago.

02

You are not the product.

Think about a trip, find tickets in your feed an hour later. That is not magic, it is surveillance. We do not listen, we do not retarget, we do not sell your attention to brands you never invited. You share what you choose to share, no more.

03

Arabic is not a feature flag.

Most apps treat Arabic as a translation pass and an RTL toggle. We treat it as a first-class language: real typography, real layout, real cultural defaults, from day one of the codebase.

04

Voice, not text.

Our culture is oral before it is written. ChaiTalk puts the microphone on the timeline. You hold to record, and your friends hear you. That isn't a 1.2 feature, it is the killer one.

05

Free to talk our way. Safe for the kids.

Freedom of speech in a language a third party filter does not understand. We write the way Arabs actually write online, including the patterns that keep the conversation flowing. Child protection is built in, not bolted on later under pressure.

06

Less app, more life.

Other platforms bury you under menus, bans, brand placements, and three settings screens to mute a notification. We strip that out. One unified surface. Fast paths. Get back to your evening.

The bigger dream

One day, our own everything.

ChaiTalk is one piece. The same energy belongs in every layer of the stack we rent today.

Each one a long road. But the only way the road shortens is if someone starts walking. We are starting here.

The founder

Yapoey

Egyptian by birth, Seoul by choice. I came to Korea in 2018 and watched a country of 50 million people support its own social platforms instead of renting them. I never stopped thinking about what we deserve at home. ChaiTalk is being built by a mixed Egyptian and Korean team for the Middle East, by someone who still talks to his family in Arabic every night. One day I want us to have our own of everything that runs our lives: cloud, search, AI, ID, payments, the lot. This is where I start.
